Cirrhosis occurs when the liver is scarred and functions poorly, causing chronic liver disease. Symptoms typically develop gradually and in some cases symptoms will not be apparent. The most common causes of cirrhosis are hepatitis C infection and alcohol abuse.

- Confusion
- Impotence
- Nausea and vomiting
- Nosebleeds or bleeding gums
- Swelling or build up of fluid in the legs
- Vomiting blood
- Weakness
- Weight loss
- Jaundice
Treatment
- Stop all alcohol consumption
- Limit salt in diet
- Liver transplant
