Diverticulosis is pouches of mucus found most often in the left colon. This condition occurs most often in patients over the age of 40. Diverticulae form due to weakness of the muscle layers created by the extension of blood vessels that lead to the bowel. A diet that does not include enough fiber can also lead to diverticulosis.
