Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE or lupus) is a chronic autoimmune disorder that causes inflammation of the joints, skin, kidneys, and other organs. Symptoms are varied and can come and go in episodes. Joint pain is the most common symptom, frequently affecting the fingers, hands, wrists, and knees. There is no cure for lupus but it is possible to control the symptoms.
