Gout

Gout is a type of arthritis that affects a single affected joint (acute) or multiple joints (chronic). A build up of uric acid in the joint causes painful inflammation. Symptoms usually occur in the form of an attack or episode, and there can be several months between these instances. Gout is caused by uric acid, a substance that the body makes naturally, when the body malfunctions and this acid is not dispelled from the body.

Symptoms

  • Joint pain
  • Inflammation or swelling
  • Throbbing pain
  • Joint appears warm and red
  • Fever
